My name is Kristen Schaible Martin and I am currently a 3rd grade teacher in the New Hanover Public School System in North Carolina. I previously taught 12 years in Wake County Public Schools. WCPSS has the highest number of NBCT teachers in the country! I began teaching 13 years ago after graduating Meredith College with a degree in Child Development and my K-6 licensure. In my first year teaching, I was a finalist for First Year Teacher of the Year for Wake County. More recently, I was a Teacher of the Year finalist for Wake County in 2022. 

I received my National Board Certification in Literacy: Reading - Language Arts Early and Middle Childhood in 2020. I successfully took on the challenge to complete all 4 components in one year. I understand the rigor, language and literacy content to support candidates as they navigate the NBCT process. I successfully maintained certification in 2025. While I can't promise a definite outcome, I'm committed to supporting you to feel supported, confident, and clear in what is needed to be successful.
